West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has this week welcomed news that Britain’s premier cycle race will visit the county.
The prestigious Tour of Britain will start in Worcester, pass over the Malvern Hills before travelling though Upton-upon-Severn, Pershore and leaving the county after a visit to Broadway.
Hundreds of world-famous cyclists with take part in the prestigious race allowing cycling fans to see their heroes up close.
Harriett commented: “It is great news that the Tour will again visit this beautiful area and I am sure local cycling fans will love to see that the popular ascent to the Wyche cutting is part of this year’s route.
“The teams will start in Worcester so I am sure this will be great for tourism and mean that many of the local hotels are full.
“The coverage of the race is seen on television all over the world so I am sure the whole event will be a wonderful advert for our picturesque rural county.
“I will be meeting with local tourism bodies to see what we can do to make the most of this opportunity and helping our valuable tourism industry to benefit as best as possible.”
