West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has repeated her support for community transport schemes which provide an important lifeline for elderly and vulnerable local people. Organisations like Tenbury Transport Trust and Malvern and District Community Action provide essential support for people needing to get around to hospital appointments, vital shopping trips or attending community events. As well as utilising volunteer drivers, some community transport schemes run minibuses and other larger forms of transport to help people travel around the rural West Worcestershire countryside. And the Government is currently consulting on how such schemes operate to make sure all operators confirm to the law and offer a safe service for users. Harriett has been in regular contact with local community transport during this review process and repeated her support for the vital voluntary services. She commented: “I have been in a regular dialogue with the local transport groups who fear they will be affected by this consultation and have written to Transport Minister Jesse Norman on their behalf. “I have been reassured that this review is not expected to have a negative impact on local community transport groups and they are ensuring that all views are considered as the consultation process progresses. “Groups like Tenbury Transport Trust and Malvern and District Community Action do an increasingly important job helping elderly and vulnerable people get out and about. I have been keen to stress to Government Ministers that this review should help them do more good work, not hold them back. “However I know that some local groups have been concerned by this consultation and I wanted to make sure that everyone is clear that I will continue to press for the right solution to keep our volunteer drivers on the road.”
