Philip Hammond MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions visited the Civic Centre in Pershore with Harriett Baldwin, Conservative Party Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire.

He congratulated Cllr Martin Jennings, Leader of the Conservative-controlled Wychavon District Council on winning "Best Council in the Country" at last week's council "Oscars".

Philip Hammond said, "It is good to see how Wychavon District Council is demonstrating how to deliver excellent services with good value. By listening to people's priorities, they have helped to deliver a new GP surgery and community hospital in partnership with the GP practice, PCT and with the Friends of Pershore Hospital. It is an innovative approach from a Conservative-controlled council which has justifiably been given this outstanding award by its peers."

Cllr Martin Jennings said, "The award was a credit to the hard-working team here at Wychavon."
