Prime Minister David Cameron today toured Upton-upon-Severn to show his support for traders in the town. MP Harriett Baldwin asked him to tour the town and meet with local traders and volunteers. They also thanked members of the Royal Irish Regiment who have been in the town helping to ferry shoppers and tourists into the town. The Prime Minister expressed his support for local businesses which have remained open and welcomed shoppers and visitors into Upton. And he was able to announce a £10 million fund to help small businesses recover from the effect of flooding on trade. Harriett commented: “I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to Upton to see how the community is buoyant and open for businesses. “The flood defences have worked well and the army have been brilliant helping people to get access to the town. “The Prime Minister was able to say some re-assuring things about future measures to further protect the town but the message is clear that Upton is open for business. “I look forward to working with the local council to see what we can do to help business and use this new Government money to keep Upton trading.”
