A West Malvern primary school pupil lobbied local MP Harriett Baldwin over school mashed potato and ended up taking the politician around her school. Eleven year old Amy Farrer stopped the MP in the street in Barnards Green to complain about her school food. Harriett invited Amy to bring her school to the Houses of Parliament and agreed to visit the school to meet with pupils and teachers. The MP met with St James' Church of England Primary School head teacher Karen Surrall and toured the school with Amy, Alice Wadsworth, Ben Hoad and Sam Blackburn, all aged 11. Harriett took part in a class question time and was also treated to a selection of songs including several traditional Tanzanian songs including its national anthem, and the UK National Anthem. Harriett commented: “I really enjoyed my tour of the classes and I am really glad Amy took the trouble to stop me to talk about her school. “It is clear that the pupils are really proud of their school and it is clearly well deserving of its outstanding Ofsted rating. “I am pleased that the school was able to organise a trip to Parliament. “It clearly left a big impression on the children and there are pictures and models of Parliament all over the school, which made me feel at home. “I would encourage as many schools as possible to visit Westminster as I find it is both a great trip to London and is a lasting educational experience for pupils and often for staff too.” Photo: Back row (l-r) Alice Wadsworth, Harriett Baldwin MP, Amy Farrer, Front row (l-r) Sam Blackburn and Ben Hoad.
