Harriett Baldwin MP continues to work closely with Malvern Hills District Council and the county council to lobby for the comprehensive roll out of superfast Broadband across the district. Harriett joined council chiefs at the new Malvern Vale development to see the cabinet serving homes and businesses, that BT is not currently planning to include as part of their programme to bring a superfast service to the area. The absence of a superfast facility is particularly shocking given that it is a brand new housing development. Councillor Phil Grove, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at MHDC said: “Together with our MP we are lobbying hard to make sure the district gets comprehensive superfast broadband coverage. It’s vital that residents and businesses help the campaign by completing an on going survey - it will provide evidence of the demand in our local communities, giving us more chance to see significant improvements to Broadband infrastructure, reliability and speeds across our district”. Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, commented: “Malvern Vale is a fast-growing part of town, with many new homes and land designated for employment. I can’t for the life of me understand why a sensible private sector company like BT doesn’t see cabinet 55 as an opportunity for upgrade “I have urged senior managers in the company to change their mind. Yes, the county council is providing a public subsidy but I think that should be kept for rural areas, not Malvern itself. “Superfast broadband delivery is critical to the success of many lives and businesses and it strikes me as unfair that some areas in Malvern get it and some don't. “I have asked for answers from BT on how it decides to upgrade its boxes but have not yet received a clear response. “I will continue to work with Malvern Hills District Council to keep up the pressure on BT to give proper broadband speeds to all commercially viable areas.” To complete the survey click here: www.worcestershire.gov.uk/broadband Photo: Chris Bocock, Chief Executive MHDC, Harriett Baldwin MP, Coun David Hughes, Leader of MHDC, Coun Phil Grove, Portfolio holder for Economic Development MHDC and Coun Paul Swinburn, Deputy Leader MHDC
