The Chancellor revealed this week that, because of the billions of pounds he has to borrow over the next four years to finance his spending plans, the national debt will hit £1 trillion by 2012-13, landing every area of the UK with an eye-watering multi-billion pound bill.
The Conservatives have produced analysis based on the population of each area to work out how much each part of the UK will have to pay back. Every man, woman and child in this country will owe about £17,000 each.
The figure for the 100,000 men, women and children of West Worcestershire will be approximately £1,700,000,000 by 2012-13.
Commenting, Harriett Baldwin, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire, said:
"The families and businesses of the West Worcestershire are being saddled with a staggering £1.7 billion bill to pay their share of Brown's Borrowing Bombshell. Ordinary families and our own children will be paying off this debt for decades to come.
"When Gordon Brown was Chancellor and I was a pension fund manager, I could see that the country's long term finances were deteriorating. It's the reason I went into politics, so that I could look my children in the eye in years to come and say I tried to make a difference. But I certainly never thought it would get this bad this fast."
