West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed investment into Malvern paths which will ensure they are ready for winter. The MP took a walking tour of Malvern Link with local county councillor Paul Tuthill to see how cash has been spent improving paths for local people. The pair also visited the two railway crossings linking Jamaica Road and Lower Howsell’s sports fields and discussed safety issues at the site. Harriett commented: “The paths running alongside the railway are used a lot by pedestrians and dog-walkers and in the past they have been impassable during periods of heavy rain. “The new surfacing will allow people to get easier access and I am grateful to Paul Tuthill to press for this local investment. “The railway crossings pose a broader problem and I have asked both Paul and Network Rail to look into any plans which may optimise the crossings without impacting on local safety. I look forward to hearing suggestions back in due course.” Paul Tuthill added: “This work is part of an ongoing programme which I instigated to improve footpaths in the Link Division. I am very grateful for the work Phil Goddard of Rural Routes at WCC has done to implement the improvements. “The issue of safety at the railway crossings in the Link has been an issue of great concern for many years. Harriett was key to getting Network Rail to paint the passenger bridge at Malvern Link train station, where others failed.
