West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has offered her support to ambitious plans to identify ways to improve traffic flow along the busy A46. The MP has already had discussions with Highways England setting out proposals for a roundabout at Sedgeberrow and local county councillor Adrian Hardman briefed Harriett on broader plans to improve traffic flow along the busy trunk road. Local authority representatives have set up a working party to identify potential solutions to reduce congestion at junction nine of the M5 and along the A46 across Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. Harriett commented: “I am grateful for Adrian for taking the time to brief me on his discussions. I have already raised the A46 congestion issue with Highways England and in particular problems that people in Sedgeberrow and Beckford have joining the main road. “My top priority at the moment is securing funding for the Pershore Link Road and helping Worcestershire County Council to make the business case for the Carrington Road bridge project. “The A46 will become an increasingly important link road for commuters and it is wise to start developing a long-term plan. “I’ve also suggested that the group looks at the current lobbying for an improved junction at the ‘Air Balloon roundabout’ at the A417 at Birdlip. “As someone who regularly drives to and from Westminster, I know that when the M40 is highly congested or blocked, some of these relief roads are critical and we need to find a way to add capacity and improve traffic flow. “I have asked Adrian to keep me informed and have offered to meet again with Highways England to discuss this matter further if required.” Photo: Worcestershire county councillor Adrian Hardman and Harriett Baldwin MP discuss plans to improve traffic flow for the A46.
