Cancer researchers used fun and games to attempt to inspire local young people to take up science subjects.
And West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin visited the stand at Malvern’s Science in the Park, to see how the charity explains the improvements it has made in cancer treatment and to engage with people of all ages to explain the work of Cancer Research.
Harriett was asked to shoot target with a blindfold to show how much less effective cancer treatments were before hospitals were able to use detailed body imaging technology.
The game was one of a range of activities designed to show how scientists work to develop better cancer treatments and improve the prognosis of those diagnosed with cancer.
Harriett commented: “Cancer is an illness which touches all of us or a family member at some stage in our lives and I was lucky enough to visit Cancer Research’s lab in Birmingham to see their cutting edge research at first hand.
“The stand was really engaging and I hope that some of the young people who saw the demonstrations will want to go on and learn more and may be become a research scientist of the future.”
