Sir Michael Spicer and Harriett Baldwin today said,
"We strongly oppose any plans to replace the present weekly collection of general waste with a fortnightly schedule. Even if this were accompanied by the provision of wheelie bins, as it would have to be, it would be very much less hygienic and acceptable than the present system. We sincerely hope that the Wychavon District Council will reject the proposition to go for fortnightly collection whatever the financial savings are forecast to be. There are certainly far more hygienic ways of recycling waste than this.
The proper collection of waste should be the primary task of a district authority. It is certainly the most visible and regular service that the authority provides to the general public. It is essential that the present efficiency of the Wychavon District Council waste collection system is maintained."
