With the County Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee about to publish its report this month, and in advance of the Cabinet's discussion on November 1st, Harriett Baldwin has held meetings with the managers of Llanrug, Malvern Hills and Upton Warren, with Outdoor Education campaigners and with County Councillors and Council Officers.
Harriett Baldwin said, "I am urging the Council to consider the possibility that if they ask the Llanrug team to put together a medium term business plan, they should be given the chance to eliminate the subsidy in due course. The centre's managers believe that they can turn things around. However, with the threat of closure hanging over them, their bookings are being affected. With David Cameron coming out strongly for a National Citizens Service for 16-year olds, it won't be long before Gordon Brown pinches this good idea and then there could be a new source of statutory funding. Let's give Llanrug more time."
