In her fact-finding meeting yesterday with Club Chairman Malcolm Fish and his committee, Harriett Baldwin learned that the trigger for the closure was that the Club has been trading at a loss. However, the Committee is confident that the finances can be put on a surplus footing from this year onwards.
In her letter, Harriett Baldwin wrote, "I am writing to pass on to you the concerns of Malvern residents about the recently announced closure of the CSSC in Malvern.
The Club premises have been at the heart of the community in Malvern for many years. Many charities and organisations use the premises for fund-raising events and community outreach. These include the County Air Ambulance, Age Concern, blood donors, pensioners' fitness clubs and the Tiny Tots nursery. The impact of the facility goes far beyond the size of the membership itself...
It is regrettable that the Chairman was only notified last week that there was no option but to sell the club and that it will close on April 30th. I am writing to ask you and the Management Committee to consider a stay of execution, in order to give the Club more time to rectify its trading position."
