Harriett Baldwin has today congratulated Paul Thomas, Mayor of Upton, on the successful campaign to get the County Council to clean Upton's bridge.
A team of volunteers, including Upton Mayor Paul Thomas had got together on a Sunday morning to clean part of the bridge. This sense of community action had helped persuade the County Council to spray wash the bridge. Painting the bridge at this time will not be possible as it would cost £100,000.
Harriett Baldwin said, "I spoke to Cllr Derek Prodger last Friday and he has been impressed with the strength of community pride shown by the Upton team and wanted to help in some way, despite it being unaffordable to paint the bridge at this time. I have also asked Cllr Prodger if he can look once again at the situation with the Teme Bridge in Tenbury Wells."
