Harriett Baldwin MP today welcomed news that locally elected district councillors have decided to give the green light for permanent flood defences in the Upton-upon-Severn. The MHDC Southern Planning Committee took the decision after a public meeting held in the town. The designs for a glass-topped wall along the waterfront have been developed with extensive feedback from local residents. Many local residents had written to the Council both in favour and against the scheme. The West Worcestershire MP commented: “I am pleased that the issues have been fully aired and that the decision has been taken locally. “I would like to pay tribute to the Environment Agency which has gone to great lengths to consult with local people and try to find the best possible solution. “My role in Parliament is to lobby for proper funding for flood defences so that all affected communities in West Worcestershire can look forward to better protection against the horrors of flooding.”
