Harriett Baldwin has this week asked the Department of Transport about their plans for an hourly train service between Malvern, Pershore and London.
The MP has placed a series of questions to the Department of Transport following meetings with local rail operators.
Harriett has asked about plans for improving the services between Malvern, Pershore and London and asked for a commitment to dual-lay track completely between Oxford and Worcester.
Harriett commented: “Anyone who has travel from Worcestershire to Oxford or London on a regular basis will know that the current service is both infrequent and slow.
“This fact is amplified when I was told that one hundred years ago the journey between Worcester and London took 45 minutes less than it does today.”
“This week I met with rail operators and Railtrack. This week double track will be laid between Charlbury and Evesham, which will certainly help. However, I want to keep up the pressure so that the whole distance from Oxford to Worcester is doubled.
“As we think ahead, I also want to press for a more regular service when the new train franchises are tendered for 2013 and we also need to plan for the electrification of the London to Oxford line and how that will interact with diesel.
I will be working with my Cotswold Line colleagues in Parliament to keep up the pressure for progress.”
