Harriett Baldwin MP today offered support to local small businesses by announcing an event to help banks and business experts meet their customers. The MP will run her first dedicated surgery for small businesses in March, allowing entrepreneurs to discuss their problems. The session follows a series of policy initiatives by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills to improve the prospects for small businesses to survive and thrive. Earlier this month, the Government announced a plan for helping small business, including launching a specialist advice call centre and dedicated website, and a mentoring system. To tie in with this small business support, Harriett has arranged a local surgery session where companies can find out more about the initiatives. All the major high street banks will be attending as well as representatives from the local Chamber of Commerce and other business advisors. Harriett commented: “I have had a lot of letters from small businesses who are facing difficult challenges as we head towards recovery. Some of them are frustrated with their local banks. “I am eager to bring the banks together to see how they can help to support our small businesses. “The Government has started a number of initiatives to help small business to make the most of the recovery. “My event will be a chance for companies to meet senior people from the banks to get a clear picture about getting funds for growth. I am also hoping that businesses will, themselves get the chance to network and meet with specialist business advisers in a low-pressure environment.” The event will take place at Malvern Priory Lodge Hall on March 11.
