West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today kicked off the search for local people to carry the Olympic torch through the county.
The MP will be submitting names for candidates to run sections of the route through the county next May.
The 70-day journey will start at Land’s End and reaching Worcestershire on May 24 and arriving at the Olympic stadium in London on July 27.
Harriett has been asked to submit names for people who want to carry the torch across the county and she has made an appeal for suggestions.
Nominees need to demonstrate why they are a good choice to carry the torch and how they have gone beyond their personal best to help their local community.
More than 8,000 will be invited to carry the torch in the nationwide relay procession.
Harriett commented: “This is a very exciting opportunity for people to get involved in the London Olympics.
“I know there are many worthy candidates West Worcestershire so I am asking for people to send their application to me at the House of Commons and I will cast my nomination from this list.
”I look forward to helping someone in the county to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in the Olympics.”
