Harriett Baldwin urged local people to take part in a national campaign to help vulnerable people keep their homes warm during this week’s cold snap. The Government this week announced that £30 million is still available this year for people to spend on home improvements to make their homes better heated. And as the cold snap hits Britain this week, the MP urged local people to keep an eye on vulnerable friends and relatives and identify areas where they could benefit from the Home Front fund. The scheme is targeted at people who already receive a cold weather payment and it will contribute up to £6,000 to pay for boiler repairs, new central heating systems and insulation work at county homes. Harriett commented: “There are many older and vulnerable people who live in fear of a cold winter which will stretch their budgets to the limit. “Some of these live in old, draughty homes with inefficient heating systems. They could take large chunks out of their annual heating bill by applying for this grant. “As the cold weather advances across the county, its both important to key and eye on vulnerable people and maybe also spot ways to help them to benefit from this fund. “There is £30 million still available this year so the time to make homes more energy efficient is now.”
