MP Harriett Baldwin is alerting local people to a second chance to comment on proposed changes which will re-draw electoral boundaries in 2015. Plans revealed by the Boundary Commission propose the division of the West Worcestershire constituency into parts of two new constituencies - Malvern and Ledbury and Evesham. Harriett has commented on the outline proposals and today the Commission has published all the consultation responses. Local people have four weeks to read the replies and make further comments. The changes are expected to be implemented in time for the next General Election in May 2015. Harriett commented: “The principal aim has been to re-draw the electoral map to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600. Each constituency should contain a similar number of electors. “It is only right that MPs should be asked to do more for less, just like the rest of the public sector. “The main point made to me about these proposals was that the people of Malvern Wells would be moved out of the Malvern and Ledbury constituency if these changes are adopted and placed in Evesham. Personally, I think South Worcestershire would be a more appropriate name for the Evesham constituency.” “I urge people to have a good look at these proposals and send in comments agreeing or disagreeing with the points made in writing and at the public hearings. “Obviously, the proposals are still a draft and will not apply until the next General Election. I continue to work hard for everyone who lives in West Worcestershire.” The proposals and submissions are published on the Boundary Commission website at: http://consultation.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk/. The consultation process ends on April 3.
