Harriett Baldwin today called for restraint as drought conditions threaten the country.
The MP urged local people to use common sense and not waste water as continued dry weather threatens local water reserves.
Despite a damp Easter weekend, the Environment Agency has written to Harriett to update her on potential supply problems in the county.
Although hosepipe bans are considered unlikely the Agency is working with local businesses, especially farmers, to plan ahead.
Harriett said: “I have received an update from the Environment Agency and I am assured that at the present time, we aren’t expecting the hosepipe bans that have come into force in other areas of the country.
“However, we have had much less rain than usual and I would urge people to use common sense when using water this summer.
“Farmers will be particularly concerned but I hope that they will be able to work with the Agency to make sure that crops are protected.
“The river levels are low but I understand that there is plenty of water further upstream which will allow us to protect our rivers, our wildlife and our natural resources.
“Nevertheless, it is wise that we all avoid wasting water and protecting this precious commodity which we too often take for granted.
“Local water company Severn Trent is offering an information pack and a number of pieces of equipment to help save water. I hope many people will take a look and see what they can do to help reduce their consumption.”
