West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today has noted the OFT’s report into the petrol and diesel market. The Office of Fair Trading has reported that its investigation into fuel prices did not find any unusual activity from the major fuel distributors. Harriett wrote to the OFT two years ago asking for them to investigate pricing, especially in Worcestershire where she has received complaints from constituents. She has also raised the issue of high motorway fuel prices with the regulator, and the lack of price displays on the highway. Harriett commented: “The OFT did note in their report that fuel prices in rural areas are often much higher because of lack of competition nearby. “Because I drive such a lot myself, I follow local pump prices closely and try to fill up when I see somewhere cheap. "Government has done its bit to help by freezing fuel duty, meaning that families are saving an average of £159 a year compared to what they would have paid with Labour’s planned tax hikes. “I support the OFT’s call for prices to be displayed before the exit on motorways, as this will help consumers. I also have noticed that there are some local independent petrol retailers like P.J. Nicholls in Malvern, which are often the cheaper than the supermarkets. "Websites and apps like Petrolprices.com can also help consumers find the best local deal.”
