West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin is expecting ‘positive results’ from the visit of a Russian trade delegation to Worcestershire. The MP hosted a visit by a delegation from the Bryansk region by senior politicians and representatives from academia and business. The trip included a civic reception at Wychavon District Council by chairman Richard Morris, Worcestershire County Council leader Adrian Hardman and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership chairman Peter Pawsey and Federation of Small Business regional chairman Ken Wigfield. The delegation also toured Pershore Horticultural College and visited asparagus crops in Birlingham farmed by Red Star Growers. Harriett commented: “We set out to show that Worcestershire is open for business and I think we have delivered some positive results. “Bryansk and Worcestershire are quite similar and share a lot of common characteristics. “The Russians came looking to do business and I am pleased that they were able to have discussions about a number of ways that we can trade collaboratively. “And to top it all, Bryansk Agricultural Academy has agreed a plan to work with Pershore College including academic exchanges and a football match was also suggested. “The Russian economy is booming and we must do all we can to exploit any opportunities to continue our path towards county-wide economic recovery.” FSB's Ken Wigfield added: “I was delighted to be part of the Worcestershire team, led by Harriett Baldwin, MP, who met visitors from Bryansk. “I feel, there is huge potential for UK based businesses to work with colleagues in Bryansk and at a number of levels. “The Federation of Small Businesses is firmly committed to supporting members into export and the Bryansk delegation made it very clear that they are open to a range of possibilities which will help both UK and Russian businesses develop and grow. “I sincerely hope that this is part of a long term working relationship with Bryansk and hope Worcestershire business owners will rise to the opportunities on the horizon.”
