Pupils from the Chase High School in Malvern will be visiting Westminster next month after local MP Harriett Baldwin secured them a slot at a national computer coding initiative.
Harriett recommended the school for the initiative after meeting up with local pupils during a visit by Science Minister David Willetts.
The event – aimed at encouraging young girls to take up computer coding – will take place in the Houses of Parliament on July 8.
Three female students will make the trip to Westminster to join a handful of specially selected schools to help promote coding to girls.
Harriett said: “I met with some of the Chase’s older pupils during the visit by David Willetts and was really impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the girls.
“I also met with a local code club at Malvern Wells Primary School where younger pupils learn how to code and was very keen to see Malvern represented in this national event.
“Our long-term economic plan depends on helping to nurture our young talent and this event will be a great way to spread the word that careers in areas like IT are open to boys and girls.
“I hope the pupils enjoy their trip to Westminster and I am grateful to the Chase’s IT head, John Palmer, for his efforts to make this trip possible.”
