West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has been recalled to Parliament today to vote on deploying UK air strikes on ISIL targets in Iraq at the request of the Iraqi government. An emergency debate will be held today (Friday September 26) in the House of Commons followed by a vote at 5pm. The motion for debate condemns the acts of the ISIL including the murder of a British person and offers support to the Iraqi Government including the use of air strikes ‘to restore its territorial integrity’. The motion stipulates that a further vote will be required if troops are to be deployed on the ground in Iraq or for action to be taken against neighbouring Syria. The full motion can be read at: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201415/cmagenda/ob140926.htm Harriett commented: “The UK has been asked by the legitimate Iraqi government to help rid them of the scourge of Islamist terrorist anarchy. “The UK is part of the wide range of nations, many from the region, helping the Iraqis and tackling an unfolding humanitarian crisis. “I am certainly willing to vote to provide the air support the Iraqi government needs to support its armed forces.”
