West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has called on the Fire Service to monitor the impact of a reduction in fire engine cover in Tenbury. The Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire Authority this week confirmed that Tenbury’s fire station would lose its second engine as a result of budget reductions, bringing it into line with similar-sized towns like Upton-upon-Severn. Harriett has met with Government Ministers and Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates to assess the impact reductions may have on cover for the area. She also wrote into the consultation urging more co-operation with other areas to reduce office costs. Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, commented: “I expressed concern about the impact of a reduction of appliances across the county and urged the authority to look at other ways of making cost savings. “My principal concern is any threat to local people if we were to face heavy flooding again similar to the levels faced in 2007. “Having discussed this matter with the Chief Fire Officer, I am reassured that the service’s ability to handle urgent calls will not be reduced by this decision but I have asked them to closely monitor the engine response times.”
