West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today welcomed Government-funded rebates which are aimed at helping to make energy bills more manageable this winter.
Last year, the Department for Energy and Climate Change announced that consumers would get £50 towards their energy bills including a £12 rebate on electricity bills.
Harriett urged people who use a pre-payment card to pay for their electricity to make sure they have got this payment, which is being distributed this month and next month.
She also encouraged people to shop around to make sure consumers are getting the best deal and to join group buying schemes to get the best prices for gas and heating oil.
Harriett commented: “As winter approaches,it is important that people take a fresh look at their bills and make sure they are getting the best deal.
“Both Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Council operate bulk buying schemes which offer great savings.
“We all hope that we don't have a harsh winter, but now is the time to prepare if possible.
“I also hope that people who use pre-pay schemes will check that they have got their payment. Every little helps when it comes to managing bills and this Government payment will be a real help for many local people.”
