West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today offered her support to a campaign by Worcestershire County Council to secure funding for the completion of the Southern Link Road. This project will include the critical dualling of the highly-congested Carrington Road bridge which Harriett, along with her Westminster colleagues, has been lobbying Ministers for both during the last Parliament and since the election in May. Harriett met with Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin earlier in the year and discussed proposals to improve the traffic blackspot. Harriett passed on his message that the county council and Local Enterprise Partnership were required to make an economic case to secure the investment. This week, Harriett has added her support to the council’s submission and has written to the county council confirming this. Harriett said: “After the Prime Minister visited Upton two years ago, I was asked to identify transport projects which would improve the county’s resilience at times of flood. “The dualling of the Carrington Road bridge was top of that list and since then, I and Robin Walker have continued to press the Department for Transport to support this project. “The Transport Secretary’s visit was very important as he was able to see at first-hand the challenges that commuters face every day to get to and from work and home. “I was pleased that the county is working towards making this project a reality and I have willingly offered my support as it makes the case to Government.”
