West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed last week’s Autumn Statement which promises a review into the way school funding is calculated for county schools. Chancellor George Osborne announced that the Department for Education will introduce the first ever national funding formula to end the unfair system where a child’s funding is based on where they live rather than need. Harriett has been a consistent campaigner for a better funding deal for Worcestershire schools and has honoured a long-standing pledge to schools and local parents. Harriett commented: “I am delighted that years of campaigning on fairer funding has delivered a positive outcome. “Every time I visit a school, I am told of the frustrations that teachers feel about the funding imbalance between pupils who study in Birmingham compared with pupils who go to Worcestershire schools. “The Chancellor’s announcement was a wonderful piece of news and will start a journey towards finally securing a solution to this problem. “I know that the Department for Education understands our local frustrations and I look forward to seeing progress next year.”
