County transport chiefs have pledged to look into flooding issues in Eckington after local MP Harriett Baldwin took up the issue on behalf of local school children.
The West Worcestershire MP visited Eckington C of E First School last month and led a debate in class time to discuss ‘controversial local issues’. The pupils raised flooding issues – and the problems of road closures in Eckington as a major local issue.
Harriett agreed to write to Worcestershire County Council to raise these concerns and has been informed that it is investigating road improvements to raise the road and keep it open for longer during periods of flooding.
Harriett commented: “I welcome the news from the county council that it is investigating ways of raising the road to keep it open for more time.
“It was very useful to get the view of pupils at Eckington First School and I have passed the letter onto the head teacher to feed back the council’s response.
“The council has made it clear that a new bridge may not be possible but any measures which help to keep the old bridge open for longer will be welcomed by the school pupils, their parents and local residents.
