County commuters are being promised faster journey times west of Worcester through a package of further improvements to the congested A4440. The work to improve the Ketch and Norton roundabouts will be followed by changes to the busy Whittington roundabout. West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin asked Worcestershire County Council to look into complaints from constituents about journey times along the A4440. The council confirmed that as well as bidding for the full dualling of the Carrington Road bridge, it is planning a feeder lane from the M5 to replace the controversial ‘give way’ junction at the Whittington roundabout as well as other staged work along the Southern Link Road. Harriett commented: “Many of my constituents complain about journey times along the A4440 and I have been fully supportive of attempts to speed up journey times with the current series of works. “I have written to the Transport Secretary supporting the county’s bid for improvements to the Carrington Road bridge and welcome the plans to carry out extra work at the Whittington roundabout to free up traffic flow. “Commuters across the south of Worcestershire will be pleased with this common-sense step and it was also good to see the Carrington Road bridge mentioned in the budget documents last month.”
