Supermarket giant Tesco has again repeated its commitment to building a new store in Tesco, following a letter from Tenbury MP Harriett Baldwin. The MP wrote together with Malvern Hills District Councillor Tony Penn after local people raised concerns about the knock-on effect of delays to construction of the site on the town. Harriett wrote to Tesco two years ago asking for it to advance money pledged to Tenbury Transport Trust as part of the planning permission and also urged it to work with Tenbury Museum representatives over use of the old fire station building. Earlier this month Harriett wrote again highlighting the impact the delays are having on local projects including flood defences and public realm improvements. The Tesco reply confirms: ‘we are pleased to reassure you that we remain committed to building a store in Tenbury...Tenbury remains a town that we want to invest in. We understand the community is frustrated that we aren't able to provide a timetable for the development at this stage and understand that other works are dependent on our plans. We will be in touch as soon as possible when we have news.’ Harriett commented: “The site is clearly an eyesore at the moment and reflects poorly on the town when tourists visit and walk along the river. “Tesco has today repeated its commitment to Tenbury and I have repeated my desire for the company to work hard locally to enhance its reputation with local residents while we await progress on the construction.”
