West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has repeated her call for improvements to a congested road junction linking Upton-upon-Severn and Pershore.
Harriett has written to Highways England asking the agency to support plans to improve the A38 junction with the A4104 at the edge of Upton. She has also lobbied Worcestershire County Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership to support plans to turn the junction into a roundabout to improve traffic flow and reduce accident risk.
Harriett commented: “Anyone who uses this junction will know how difficult it is and how often traffic tails back, especially during rush hour and at times when there are events in Upton or at the Three Counties Showground.
“I have had lots of feedback from constituents and it is clear from their letters that they think it’s a dangerous crossing and it badly needs a re-think.
“As someone who uses the junction regularly as I travel between Upton and Pershore, I agree that action is needed to improve traffic flow for vehicles travelling through that area.
“Although it's a matter for Worcestershire County Council, I have now written to Highways England as part of their strategic review of local roads.
“There are plans underway to raise the road by Upton marina so it makes sense to build the additional roundabout project into that scheme.”
Harriett’s letter to Highways England also highlighted the need to invest in the A4440 including the full dualling of the Carrington Road bridge.
She added: “Both the LEP and the county are putting together a case for much-needed improvements to the bridge allowing for much better traffic flow for commuters to and from the motorway junction.
“This project has my support and the backing of my Westminster colleagues Robin Walker and Nigel Huddleston and I look forward to seeing some progress made with this bid soon.”
