West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin has today welcomed the news that Bredon Middle School is set to become an academy.
Harriett has lobbied on behalf of the school, its governors and many parents to get the green light to convert to an academy and Education Secretary Justine Greening today wrote to the MP confirming the news.
Harriett met with representatives from the school last year and she was asked to press for the conversion which will take effect on Thursday (September 1).
Harriett said: “The school made a compelling case to be allowed to become an academy and I wrote in support of their bid as well as discussing the matter directly with the Department.
“I am delighted that Bredon Hill Middle School has been freed to run its own affairs and I am sure that they are able to thrive as an autonomous body.
“Middle schools such as Bredon’s offer parents a greater level of choice and I look forward to meeting up with the head, Steve Charlton, soon, to check how the school is progressing under the new arrangements.”
