West Mercia police will get an extra 100 officers following an announcement by our directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion. And the news was welcomed by West Worcestershire MP who has spoken up for protected investment in police numbers to combat rural crime. Following the recruitment, West Mercia Police will have 2,030 officer with a focus on front-line policing. The investment in new police officers has been made possible following a series of efficiency gains from improving back office functions as well as accessing the force’s sizeable financial reserves. Harriett commented: “I think this is a very sensible decision by John Campion and I know that people will welcome the extra officers working on the front line. “I discussed recruitment with the Chief Constable in a recent meeting as well as the importance of focusing on rural crime and the role of the neighbourhood police teams. “This is good news for local people and I look forward to meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner in the near future to discuss what a difference these extra officers will make to local policing.”
