West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today repeated her support for Prime Minister Theresa May following the news that Conservative MPs have called for a vote of confidence in her leadership.
Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 committee which represents Conservative backbench MPs, this morning confirmed that enough letters had been submitted to trigger the poll, which will be held tonight.
Harriett commented: “Theresa May has done a great job under extremely difficult circumstances and the deal she has negotiated delivers certainty for local people and local businesses as quickly as possible as we exit the EU in a smooth and orderly way.
“I have always been clear in my view that we must respect the result of the referendum and ensure that we do leave the European Union in a way that protects jobs. I don’t support either a ‘no-deal’ exit or a second referendum and I don’t think anyone else could do a better job in these negotiations.
“I feel it is essential that we all support the Prime Minister and give her the firm backing to secure the best possible deal for our country.”
