West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has called for urgent solutions to help local residents and businesses following the sudden closure of the town’s post office.
The MP is working with both Royal Mail and Post Office managers to quickly identify better temporary solutions while a new location is agreed for the replacement Post Office.
She has asked the Post Office team to try and source a mobile post office to allow local people to carry out transactions in the town.
Harriett has also contacted Royal Mail to ask them to urgently reconsider the plans for parcel collection in Leominster, including re-instating the old sorting office temporarily in the town.
Harriett said: “The decision to close Bowkett’s has caused considerable problems for local people and although both the Post Office and Royal Mail have acted swiftly on this matter, I think they can do more.
“There is a legal requirement to keep this service in the town and although everyone seems confident that a permanent Post Office location can soon be agreed, the interim arrangements will leave many people seriously inconvenienced and I am looking for a better range of options.
“We are all eager to help find some common-sense alternatives including bringing a mobile post office to the town and maybe event re-opening the old sorting office.
“I’m passing on all fresh solutions to the relevant bodies and I hope that we can share some better news with local people very soon.”
