West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has offered her support to villagers in Hallow who have asked for a pedestrian crossing across a busy county road. And Harriett visited Hallow Primary School to talk to teachers and parents about the problems they face crossing the busy roads each day during the school term. The MP has already raised the issues of speeding through Hallow with the Safer Roads Partnership and the agency has offered its support to a proposal for a permanent crossing. Harriett has started a petition which has had almost total support from local parents and she has also raised the matter with Worcestershire County Council, asking them to secure funding for the important traffic calming measure. Harriett commented: “The main road through Hallow has always had to deal with high volumes of traffic at certain times of the day and anyone who knows this road has seen the speeding motorists ignoring limits through the village. “Having been there many times myself, I am aware of the potential dangers and I took the time to talk to parents and teachers to get their support for this campaign. “I was pleased that the Safer Roads Partnership offered no objections to this plan and it is clear that there is overwhelming support locally. “Bearing in mind all the new houses currently being built in the village, I would hope that we will be able to access developer contributions to fund this project and I will now start to make the case with the county council to build a permanent crossing as quickly as possible.”
