New college starters will be able to get half-price train travel thanks to Government offer confirmed today. And West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin welcomed the deal which will see young people save an average of £186 each year, helping them to travel more affordably. The news comes as Worcestershire County Council consults on how it delivers bus services and which routes need subsidies to help people get to and from schools, work and the shops. Harriett has urged the council to make sure that bus fares are manageable for students by helping them to buy passes each term, helping parent to spread the costs for getting to school. First Bus has introduced discounted fares through a pre-pay scheme. The new 16-17 Saver card is available for young people who are starting sixth form or college in England and Wales and can be bought for £30 at www.16-17saver.co.uk Harriett commented: “This is great news for young people who are planning their budgets ahead of starting sixth form or college next month. “I’ve spoken to the local county council about helping to make bus travel more affordable by helping people to spread their season ticket costs monthly. This saver card will help rail commuters to save money as they travel around the rail network.”
