West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has delivered on her pledge to keep environmental issues at the top of her agenda by writing to the COP 26 President sharing local views.

The MP has held a series of meetings with local people of all ages and backgrounds to find out what they think the priorities should be at the climate change conference which will be held in Glasgow next month.

And she has written setting out local priorities to Alok Sharma MP, who is presiding over the international conference.

Top priorities for local people include supporting home improvements, acting further on single use plastics and helping more people to make greener journeys to and from school and work.

The letter will be published on Harriett’s website and she will take a copy to the conference which she will attend in person.

Harriett said:

“I have engaged with a large range of my constituents to hear their views on this globally important issue and am sharing them with Alok Sharma ahead of the conference.

“It is clear to me that people want us to act as a nation but also to play an important role showing global leadership.

“People want to be able to make sure their homes and buildings are energy efficient as we move towards our net zero ambitions and they want to be able to reduce their own carbon footprint by using greener vehicle choices of even getting back to bikes or foot to commute.

“They also understand the importance of reducing our reliance on single use plastics and welcome the steps we have already taken to act but there is an appetite to do much more.

“I have shared the key themes and hope that COP26 is both a good forum for delivering change and the stepping off point to make sure that we are the first generation to leave the natural environment in a better state than we found it.”
