West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed a review of traffic light operation at a busy Pershore road to improve road safety.
Dame Harriett wrote to Worcestershire County Council asking for a review of the junction at Station Road after local people shared their concerns about difficulties crossing the road safety.
The council has agreed ‘re-phase’ the lights allowing more time for people to cross the road and it has also agreed to repair a damaged guard rail at the busy junction.
The MP worked closely with the council when the Persimmon Homes estate was first constructed to ensure road safety and safe traffic flow and successfully campaigned with pupils for the new pedestrian crossing towards Pershore High School.
Dame Harriett said:
“I was contacted by local residents who shared their worries about the traffic lights, and I am grateful for the county council’s swift and positive response.
“The new Pershore link road, which I helped to campaign for, is making a huge difference to traffic flows through the town but it is helpful to get people’s feedback which I am happy to pass on the council.
“The pedestrian crossing by the school has been a great help but further down the road towards the town, it is important that crossing the road, especially at the beginning and end of school, is as safe as possible.”
