Harriett Baldwin calls on the Justice Secretary to ensure that when children are charged with a crime they appear before magistrates as soon as possible. Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire) (Con): Does the Secretary of State agree that when children are charged with a crime, it is essential that they appear before magistrates as soon as possible? Will he ensure that the youth magistracy computer system puts a strong emphasis on speed, particularly in Worcester? Chris Grayling: My hon. Friend is absolutely right, and if particular issues emerge in Worcester, I shall ask the Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice to take a look at them with her. We obviously do not want inappropriate and unnecessary delays in bringing young people in particular to justice. | Hansard
