Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that the Environment Agency will remove the island and the gravel bar in the River Teme at Tenbury in August 2009.

Work has already taken place to clear vegetation from the island. Fallen willow trees have also been cleared upstream and the tree work through the town on the Kyre Brook has been completed. Now health and safety method statements are being prepared and funding is in place for the removal of the gravel bar and island. August is the best time in terms of environmental impact.

Harriett Baldwin said, "I am glad that the Environment Agency has assured me that the work is on track for August 2009. It was promised at the public meeting in Tenbury in January."

"Of course, I continue to work with Bill Wiggin MP and various levels of government to try to make progress on flood defences for Tenbury Wells."
