Harriett Baldwin last week was invited to tour a county primary school threatened with closure.
The MP met with staff and the chair of governors at Longdon St Mary’s Primary School and took a tour of the school which is facing closure owing to declining pupil numbers and problems recruiting staff.
Harriett commented: “I was grateful for the opportunity to visit the school and to discuss some of the problems they are facing at the moment.
“I think the school is lovely and it is at the very heart of Longdon village. The 28 pupils are getting a very good education and were also runners up in the Malvern Hills tag rugby competition this year.
“I know that the parents and villagers are working hard to make the case for keeping the school and they are actively marketing the school to local people. I do hope they can find some more children who are interested in enrolling, as it is really hard to make the case to keep the school open when numbers continue to shrink and neighbouring primaries have spaces.
“I will be watching this issue closely and I have asked the school to keep me updated on how their campaign is progressing.”
