West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today backed the local pub trade as she pulled pints in an Upton pub.
The MP was invited behind the bar at the King’s Head in Upton-upon-Severn to serve customers and find out more about the business.
Harriett chatted to customers and discussed trade with pub landlord Grahame Bunn.
The visit was part of a national campaign to highlight the challenges faced by pubs and their important role in the local community.
Harriett was on familiar territory behind the bar as she worked at a pub during her time at university.
Harriett commented: “Local pubs are often the glue in our community and it is clear that they are facing challenging times, like many of our local businesses.
“Pubs in the town benefit from Upton’s vibrant tourist trade but also have to cope once the winter months arrive and visiting trade slows down.
“As someone who has spent many hours working in pubs, I know it is a very demanding job. I also understand the important role they play in their community at all times in the year.
“I support all attempts to secure the future of all of our local pubs.
Harriett also discussed the impact that bridge works may have on the local trade during the winter months.
Harriett commented: “I understand that there have been concerns raised about the impact of repair work on the bridge.
“The clear message I want to communicate is that Upton is fully open for business and I am keen to show my support by turning up at one of the local pubs to discuss the issue.”
