Harriett Baldwin urged local people to get fit for a ‘summer of sport’ during a visit to Pershore’s Leisure Centre. The MP toured the centre today (Friday February 3) and met with staff as the post-Christmas rush to shed the pounds and get fit continued. Harriett was visiting the gym as part of a national campaign to get more people healthier and to encourage them to take part in regular exercise programmes. Harriett commented: “Pershore residents are really lucky to have such an excellent facility right in the centre of town. There are also lots of other ways local residents can exercise. "This year is an important one for the nation with the Olympic Games, the football European Championships and a host of other exciting sports. “I hope that that those watching sport at home or in the pub will be inspired to get involved themselves – even if it’s just going for a walk, kicking a ball about outside or maybe joining the local gym. “I am pleased that our leisure centre staff across the county are trying to get more people to sign up and commit to get fit. “We all aspire to be fitter and live longer, healthier lives and we must do all we can to achieve these ambitions. “The best legacy we could get from London 2012 is a happier, healthier Great Britain.”
