West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin this week offered her support to a county charity which helps vulnerable young people.
And the MP called on local people to help in a scheme run by St Basils which provides accommodation and support as these people try to gain independence.
The scheme is working with Worcestershire County Council to provide so-called ‘stepping stone’ accommodation.
St Basils has called on local people to act as hosts offering these people a bed and support as they transition from care homes to independent living.
Harriett commented: “Many of these people have had difficult childhoods and haven’t been taught all the necessary life skills to make their way in the world.
“This project is a great way of helping vulnerable young people to get out of care and to start to build a life of their own.
“More importantly, St Basils works to ensure that these people don’t end up back on the streets and they need more home owners to volunteer to make sure as many people as possible are given a fresh start.
“The home owners get paid over £100 a week and a share of the household utility bills but there is also a huge amount of satisfaction that comes from giving a young person a brighter future.”
