West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has backed a national initiative which is helping homeowners to save money on their utility bills.
New smart meters are being introduced which show exactly how much gas and electricity is being used. Nearly 2,000 meters have been installed in West Worcestershire resulting in savings of £128,000 for consumers so far.
British Gas claims that the smart meter will save the average household £65 for each property.
The meters help consumers understand what they are spending and help them to take control over their energy use and consequently their bills. Smart meters also send meter readings to suppliers automatically, seeing an end to estimated bills.
Harriett commented: "I can't wait to have a smart meter at home so that I can see why my household bills seem so high. The meters are very easy to use and will help us all keep our energy use down.
"It only works for mains gas so far, but it will work for electricity in homes and offices. Every home in the country will have one of these meters before long."
