West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today celebrated further investment in Malvern with the announcement of the green light of funding for Malvern Hills Science Park expansion.
The Government has confirmed that the Science Park will be able to access £1 million of funding this year and a further £3million next year to complete the addition of a new building at the Geraldine Road site.
Harriett briefed Defence Procurement Minister Philip Dunne on the plans during a meeting with local authority chiefs and business leaders last week (Friday November 1).
The new building will free up much needed space for small start-up companies and help the local economy and create new jobs.
Many of the businesses at the Science Park are running at capacity and there is a waiting list for companies wanting to take space.
Harriett commented: “It is great news that the Government has approved the funding for the new building programme and I am told there is great demand for the space that this building will free up.
“The Minister was very impressed with the work being done in Malvern by QinetiQ, UTC and lots of smaller high tech firms like Borwell, 3SDL, Dytecna and Deep Secure.
“We were able to lay out some ambitious plans for significant future growth across ‘Cyber Valley’ with Malvern at its heart.
“We have many brilliant people working in and around the town and it was useful to bring many of the key players together in a room with the Minister to discuss the future.
“I was also delighted that both the Head of Chase Technology College and one of the students were able to attend.
“The Phase 4 building is the next part of a strategy to ensure Malvern stays at the heart of cutting edge research and development supplying expertise to Government and private enterprises.”
