West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin took tiffin at a new county restaurant last week before nominating it for a prestigious Parliamentary award recognising the best in South Asian cooking.
The MP popped in to the Flava Fusion restaurant on Upton’s High Street to sample a special ‘tasting menu’ put together by Muj Rahman and his team.
Harriett has named the restaurant as her entry in the prestigious Tiffin Cup, which is a nationwide competition to find the best South Asian cuisine. MPs from across the nation nominate a restaurant from their constituency and short-listed restaurants are invited to cook a meal at the Houses of Parliament.
Harriett commented: “The Flava Fusion restaurant has an award-winning chef from the Rajshahi restaurant in Tewkesbury and it’s a family-run business which opened in Upton-upon-Severn last November.
“They’re well on their way to getting established, despite floods in their basement and a period when access to the town was difficult. I was invited to pop in and sample a special taster menu and having tasted the food, I was delighted to submit the restaurant as my entry in the Tiffin Cup.”
The Tiffin Cup, which is now in its seventh year, is organised by Keith Vaz MP and is judged by a collection of MPs and respected cookery experts.
Celebrity judges have included TV cook Ainsley Harriott and South Asian restaurant legend Cyrus Todiwalla.
Manager Muj Rahman added: “We are extremely happy to have been entered into a competition such as this and we are certainly very excited.
“We are a small little place in such a beautiful town and we believe our food is of a very high standard as well.
“Our chef is one of the best around hence we are eager to get our name across and win the competition. We are very grateful to have been entered into such a prestigious award and we will do our very best to win it.”
